What you talkin’ ‘bout Sleepy Joe?!

What you talkin’ ‘bout Mr. Excitement?!

What you talkin’ ‘bout Creepy Joe?!

What you talkin’ ‘bout #2 (Obama’s #2)?!

What you talkin’ ‘bout Quid Pro Quo Joe?!

Speaking to overflow “crowds” of 10 to 20 people, Joe Biden has continued to call President Trump’s Iran policy into question.

abiden 1

As if Joe Biden has a clue regarding any matter of foreign policy!

It’s a well-known fact in Washington that Joe Biden hasn’t shown ANY ability to properly understand and/or strategically react to any foreign policy situation over that last 40 years in an advantageous manner!

I’m sure Creepy Joe would prefer we fly a plane load of cash over to Tehran…, beg for their forgiveness, and hope for the best.

Oh wait…, Quid Pro Quo Joe and his “friend” Barack already tried that!

And as for Crazy Bernie, Lizzie the bag lady, and Pistol Pete…, I’m sure the Ayatollah and his friends have been having a good laugh at their expense.  They’ve also been praying to Allah that Americans are stupid enough to elect one of these “special” people!

However President Trump chooses to react to Iran’s latest missile attack, I’m sure his course of action will project American strength and resolve, and not American weakness and fear.

President Trump gives Iran the option of picking its own poison.

But let’s not forget that our reaction of taking out Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani was in response to the Iran instigated attack on our embassy in Iraq, along with a long list of other terrorist acts.

airan 8

Iran spends over a billion dollars a year promoting terrorism around the world while sponsoring groups such as Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Al-Qaida and the Taliban.

Iran was the one who started this, not The United States and not President Trump.

By threatening to further retaliate against US bases, US assets and US personnel, the leaders of Iran have made President Trump’s job much easier, however.

It is much easier to hold a country accountable for its actions as opposed to some innocuous terrorist group.

And that has been the problem all along…, where do we direct our retaliation?

Well, Iran has just solved that problem for The United States and President Trump.

airan 2

Since it’s common knowledge that most terrorist organizations in the Middle East are bankrolled by Iran, Iran has put itself in an awkward position.

Iran has positioned itself to “pay the price” for the actions taken by any group against The United States.

airan 3

And President Trump has put them on notice.

As anchorman Ron Burgundy observed, I think Iran will find that this “was not a good choice.”

In fact, President Trump warned Iran that if it hits any Americans or American assets “we have targeted 52 Iranian sites” for retaliatory strikes.

airan 1

According to Jeremy Diamond, Caroline Kelly and Greg Clary of CNN, “Iranian ambassador vows ‘harsh revenge.’”

And “Iranian foreign minister says airstrike ‘dangerous and foolish’”

Samantha Vinograd, an American foreign policy commentator who serves as National Security Analyst at CNN, said “Iran will consider this an act of war.”

Oh really?

Just like we consider an attack on any of our embassies an act of war.

We’ve heard it all before…, “death to America,” “rivers of blood,” yada, yada, yada.

“Donald Trump on Saturday drew what may come to be seen as the most significant red line of his presidency in a three-part tweet, vowing specific military action against Iran if it ‘strikes any Americans, or American assets.’”

“[President] Trump reiterated his warning in a series of tweets early Sunday, saying the United States just spent $2 trillion on military equipment.”

‘“We are the biggest and by far the BEST in the World! If Iran attacks an American Base, or any American, we will be sending some of that brand new beautiful equipment their way…and without hesitation!’ he tweeted. ‘They attacked us, & we hit back. If they attack again, which I would strongly advise them not to do, we will hit them harder than they have ever been hit before!’”

‘“Iran is talking very boldly about targeting certain USA assets as revenge for our ridding the world of their terrorist leader who had just killed an American, & badly wounded many others, not to mention all of the people he had killed over his lifetime…. — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 4, 2020’”

‘“He was already attacking our Embassy, and preparing for additional hits in other locations. Iran has been nothing but problems for many years. Let this serve as a WARNING that if Iran strikes any Americans, or American assets, we have targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture, and those targets, and Iran itself, WILL BE HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD. The USA wants no more threats!  — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 4, 2020’”

“The string of tweets came after the White House formally notified Congress on Saturday of the US operation that killed Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani on Thursday.”

airan 4

‘“Iran will be held fully responsible for lives lost, or damage incurred, at any of our facilities,’ Trump tweeted from Florida. ‘They will pay a very BIG PRICE! This is not a Warning, it is a Threat.’”

“And later Tuesday, while speaking with reporters as he entered a New Year’s Eve gala at Mar-a-Lago, the President said he doesn’t want war but that if it comes to conflict, Iran wouldn’t last long.”

‘“I don’t think that would be a good idea for Iran,’ Trump said, adding later that a potential conflict ‘would go very quickly.’”

airan 9

MrEricksonRules has been promoting a strategy like this for years.

All that was needed was an identifiable enemy who could be held accountable and a leader bold enough to issue this type of ultimatum.

Way to go, Mr. President…, way to go.

Hollywood hypocrites love to “dish it out,” but they sure can’t take it!

Ricky Gervais is an English stand-up comedian, actor, writer, director, producer, and musician.  He is best known for creating, writing and acting in the original British television series “The Office.”

77th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Show

He also hosted The Golden Globe awards show last night, and according to Yahoo senior writer, Ethan Alter, Gervais “attacked Hollywood” in his monologue and “went a little too far.”

Awwww, poor Hollywood!

Inexplicably, I actually caught Gervais’ opening monologue last night, and I thought it was actually refreshing to see all those Hollywood prima donnas take their comeuppance.

If pointing out Hollywood’s hypocrisy and laying out the truth is going too far, then so be it!

You haven’t seen President Trump, or his supporters crying about the abuse they’ve been forced to stomach at the hands of all of these Hollywood hypocrites, have you?

‘“This is the last time I’m hosting these awards,’ Ricky Gervais said moments after taking the stage at the 77th Golden Globe Awards for his fifth hosting gig. Based on the audience reaction to his bridge-burning, F-bomb-laden monologue, this might be the last time he’s allowed in Hollywood… let alone at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s [HFPA’s} annual shindig. The mood in the room was essentially summed up by everyone’s favorite L.A. neighbor Tom Hanks — this year’s recipient of the HFPA’s Cecil B. DeMille Award — whose face displayed an expression of shock and disgust every time the cameras found him in the crowd.”

aglobes 2

“One of those jokes that noticeably raised Hanks’s ire was Gervais’ suggestion that the license plate on his HFPA-hired limo was made by Felicity Huffman during her brief prison stay after she was swept up in the college admissions scandal.”

HA!

aglobes 12

aglobes 11

“Gervais proved anything but embarrassed as he continued to call out the rich and famous on their privileged lifestyle. ‘If you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a political platform to make a political speech,’ he warned. ‘You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything, you know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So, if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your God and f*** off. OK?’”

BWAHAHA!

Thank you for that Rickey!  No truer words were ever said!  And they are words that many of us have been dying to say for many years.

aglobes 7

“Meanwhile, tech world titan [and Apple CEO], Tim Cook, looked on stone-faced as Gervais praised Apple TV+’s marquee series ‘The Morning Show’ as a ‘superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing made by a company who owns sweatshops in China. You say you’re woke but the companies you work for — Apple, Amazon, Disney — if ISIS started a streaming service, you would call your agent, wouldn’t you?’”

OUCH!

aglobes 4

Tyler McCarthy of Fox News added that, “The biggest stars in TV and film gathered in Beverly Hills in the hopes of kicking off the 2020 awards season with a highly coveted Golden Globe award, and notoriously controversial host Ricky Gervais wasted no time laying into the Hollywood elite vying for a big win.”

“He called out the many stars in the room for their relationship to large corporations like Apple, Amazon and Disney.”

aglobes 9

“Gervais then mocked the stars in attendance for their relation to the late sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. Gervais declared that Epstein didn’t kill himself, prompting groans from the crowd.”

‘“Shut up, I know he’s your friend but I don’t care!’”

BAM!

“He also took a shot at Leonardo DiCaprio for his film ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ being three hours long.”

‘“Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere and, by the end, his date was too old for him!’”

Ha!

“He added: ‘Even Prince Andrew is like, “Come on Leo, mate. You’re nearly 50.”’”

OUCH, and double OUCH!

Way to go Ricky!

It was a beautiful thing, watching all of the stunned faces as the comedic tables were turned on them for a change.

Why the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” would be difficult to remake today.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” is probably my favorite Christmas movie of all-time.

I feel that the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” is a story frozen in time, however.

alife 1

If the movie were to be remade today, I believe the basic concept of the movie could be redone, but the story itself, as we know it, would become almost unrecognizable.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” was made in 1945 and released in 1946.  In this movie we see George Bailey’s life from roughly World War I (1914-1918), George Bailey was born in 1907, through to the period just after the end of World War II (1945). Two world wars, an influenza epidemic, and a devastating economic depression…, it definitely wasn’t the easiest of times. George’s breakdown happens on Christmas Eve of 1945.

alife 5

We see how the Great Depression of 1929 causes a run on the banks and threatens the Building and Loan. During World War II, George acts as an air-raid warden and keeps serving the community, while his brother Harry becomes a Navy pilot.

An uplifting story like “It’s a Wonderful Life” was just the thing for the hearts of people who’d just been through difficult and trying times during World War II.

There aren’t many people still alive today who really know what “difficult and trying times” are!

Difficult and trying times these days equates to Donald Trump being elected, breaking your smart phone or your smartphone’s battery dying on you!

But I digress.

Firstly, it would be tough to remake “It’s a Wonderful Life” because there just isn’t another actor around like Jimmy Stewart anymore.

There wasn’t another Jimmy Stewart then and there isn’t one now.

alife 2

If I was forced to make a short list of actors who I thought could conceivably play the role of George Bailey, the list would include (not in any particular order):

John Krasinski

Robert Downey Jr.

Jim Carrey

Denzel Washington

and Tom Hanks

Second, a bank or a savings and loan just aren’t family type businesses anymore.  That whole storyline would have to change…, but change into what?  And that would take away to whole “run on the bank” part of the story away as well.  The closest thing I could imagine for a more current version of the story would be a stock market crash, or something along those lines.

Third, there aren’t any tollhouse keepers on bridges anymore, and in any case, 911 would have been called, the EMTs would have been there, and then it would have been off to the hospital.  End of story.

alife 3

Also, as far as George crashing his car into a tree after drowning his sorrows at Martini’s bar, he probably would have gotten a DUI ticket and taken into custody, thus ending the story as well.

In addition, a lot of the suspense in the story would be lost, as communications are just a lot better now.  There would be no telegrams, or the inability to get ahold of anyone.

Like I said at the top of the article, if “It’s a Wonderful Life” were to be remade today, “The basic concept of the movie could be redone, but the story itself, as we know it, would become almost unrecognizable.”

A Blessed and a Merry Christmas from Mr. Erickson!

achrist 1From The Bible, Luke 2:1-20

The Birth of Jesus

1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.

2 (This was the first census that took place while Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.

4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and placed him in a manger, because there was no room available for them at an inn.

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 And the angel said unto them, do not be afraid: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born unto you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

May you and yours have a blessed Christmas season, Christian or not.

MrEricksonRules.

Christmas 101: Christmas!  It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Christmas IS the most wonderful time of the year!

It’s wonderful in many different ways for many different cultures and many different people.

achrist 2

Let’s take a look at the history, the traditions and the spirit of Christmas.

Christmas (“Christ’s Mass”) is a Christian holiday honoring the birth of Jesus, although it has evolved into a worldwide religious and secular celebration, incorporating many different traditions.

For over two thousand years, people around the world have been observing Christmas with traditions and practices that are both religious and secular in nature.

Christians celebrate Christmas Day as the anniversary of the birth of our Savior, Jesus of Nazareth.  The actual date of Jesus’ birth is not known.

Popular Christmas customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive.

December 25th, Christmas Day, has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1870, but winter and “Christmas” celebrations go back hundreds and thousands of years.

Centuries before the birth of Jesus, early Europeans celebrated light and birth in the darkest days of winter.  Many people rejoiced during the winter solstice, when the worst of the winter was behind them and they could look forward to longer days and extended hours of sunlight.

In Scandinavia, the Norse celebrated “Yule” from December 21, the winter solstice, through January. In recognition of the return of the sun, fathers and sons would bring home large logs, which they would set on fire. The people would feast until the log burned out, which could take as many as 12 days.

In the early years of Christianity, Easter was the main holiday.  The birth of Jesus was not even celebrated.  It wasn’t until the fourth century (the 300s), that church officials decided to institute the birth of Jesus as a holiday.

Unfortunately, the Bible does not mention the date of Jesus’ birth.  Pope Julius chose December 25 as the day The Church would celebrate Jesus’ birth.  It is commonly believed that the church chose this date in an effort to adopt and absorb the traditions of the pagan Saturnalia festival.  First called the Feast of the Nativity, the custom spread to Egypt by 432 and to England by the end of the sixth century.  By the end of the eighth century (the 700’s), the celebration of Christmas had spread all the way to Scandinavia.

By holding Christmas at the same time as traditional winter solstice festivals, church leaders increased the chances that Christmas would be popularly embraced, but gave up the ability to dictate how it was celebrated.  By the Middle Ages, Christianity had, for the most part, replaced pagan religion.  On “Christmas,” believers attended church, then celebrated raucously in a drunken, carnival-like atmosphere similar to today’s Mardi Gras.  Each year, a beggar or student would be crowned the “lord of misrule” and eager celebrants played the part of his subjects. The poor would go to the houses of the rich and demand their best food and drink.  If owners failed to comply, their visitors would most likely terrorize them with mischief.  Christmas became the time of year when the upper classes could repay their real or imagined “debt” to society by entertaining less fortunate citizens.

In the early 17th century (the early 1600’s), a wave of religious reform changed the way Christmas was celebrated in Europe. When Oliver Cromwell and his Puritan forces took over England in 1645, they vowed to rid England of decadence and, as part of their effort, cancelled Christmas.  By popular demand, Charles II was restored to the throne and, with him, came the return of the popular holiday.

Christmas was not a holiday in early America, due to the Puritan nature of the Pilgrims.  From 1659 to 1681, the celebration of Christmas was actually outlawed in Boston.  Anyone exhibiting the Christmas spirit was fined five shillings.

After the American Revolution (The American Revolution took place between 1765 and 1783), English customs fell out of favor, including Christmas.

It wasn’t until the 19th century (the 1800’s) that Americans began to embrace Christmas.  Americans re-invented Christmas, and changed it from a raucous carnival holiday into a family-centered day of peace and nostalgia.

The early 19th century was a period of class conflict and turmoil.  During this time, unemployment was high and gang rioting by the disenchanted classes often occurred during the Christmas season.  In 1828, the New York city council instituted the city’s first police force in response to a Christmas riot.  This was the catalyst for certain members of the upper classes to begin to change the way Christmas was celebrated in America.

In 1819, best-selling author Washington Irving wrote “The Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.”  It was a series of stories about the celebration of Christmas in an English manor house. The sketches feature a squire who invited the peasants into his home for the holiday. In contrast to the problems faced in American society, the two groups mingled effortlessly.  In Irving’s mind, Christmas should be a peaceful, warm-hearted holiday bringing groups together across lines of wealth or social status.  Irving’s fictitious celebrants enjoyed “ancient customs,” including the crowning of a Lord of Misrule.  Irving’s book, however, was not based on any holiday celebration he had attended, in fact, many historians say that Irving’s account actually “invented” tradition by implying that it described the true customs of the season.

Also around this time, English author Charles Dickens created the classic holiday tale, “A Christmas Carol.”  The story’s message of the importance of charity and good will towards all humankind struck a powerful chord in the United States and England and showed members of Victorian society the benefits of celebrating the holiday.

In my estimation, Charles Dickens was the one who set the tone and established the spirit of Christmas that we know and love today.

The family was also becoming less disciplined and more sensitive to the emotional needs of children during the early 1800s. Christmas provided families with a day when they could lavish attention, and gifts, on their children without appearing to “spoil” them.

As Americans began to embrace Christmas as a perfect family holiday, old customs were unearthed.  People looked toward recent immigrants and Catholic and Episcopalian churches to see how the day should be celebrated.  In the next 100 years, Americans built a Christmas tradition all their own that included pieces of many other customs, including decorating trees, sending holiday cards and gift-giving.

Although most families quickly bought into the idea that they were celebrating Christmas how it had been done for centuries, Americans had really re-invented a holiday to fill the cultural needs of a growing nation.

The “American” Christmas nowadays does not really align with the “Church’s” Christmas season anymore.

Americans typically switch into “Christmas mode” right after, or even during the Thanksgiving celebration, a month before Christmas Day.

This really aligns with the season of “Advent” on the Church’s liturgical calendar.

Advent (from the Latin word adventus, which means “arrival” or “coming”) is the first season of the liturgical year.  It begins four Sundays before Christmas, the Sunday falling on or nearest to November 30, and ends on Christmas Eve. Traditionally observed as a “fast”, it focuses on preparation for the coming of Christ.  Advent “a period for devout and joyful expectation.”

This season is often marked by the Advent Wreath, a garland of evergreens with four candles. Although the main symbolism of the advent wreath is simply marking the progression of time, many churches attach themes to each candle, most often ‘hope,’ ‘faith,’ ‘joy,’ and ‘love.’ Other popular devotions during Advent include the use of the Advent Calendar or the Tree of Jesse to count down the days to Christmas.

The “Christmas” season immediately follows Advent. The traditional Twelve Days of Christmas begin with Christmas Eve on the evening of December 24th and continue until the feast of Epiphany. The actual Christmas season continues until the Feast of the Baptism of Christ, which in the present form of the Roman Rite is celebrated on the Sunday after January 6, or the following Monday if that Sunday is Epiphany.

So in the Church, “Christmas,” and the Christmas season does not actually begin until Christmas Day.

Here are some great Christmas traditions my family has, along with some interesting ones I’ve heard of:

Continuing with my list…,

  1. Pick out the perfect tree from out in the forest, a local tree lot, or set-up an imitation tree.
  2. Decorate your tree.
  3. Once your tree is all decked out, turn off the light and sit on the couch, to just admire your tree.
  4. Put together a decorative Christmas village, a manger scene, or a Christmas display of some type.
  5. Hang lights and decorations outside.
  6. Pile into the car at night and drive around looking at all of the Holiday lights and decorations.
  7. Hang a wreath on your door to welcome in the Holiday, as well as visitors.

“Miracle on 34th Street”

  1. Watch your favorite Holiday TV specials. Here are some of my favorite Christmas TV specials:

“The Little Drummer Boy”

“A Charlie Brown Christmas”

“Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer”

“Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town”

  1. Send out Christmas cards and hang up the ones you receive.
  2. Christmas Eve usually entails an endless selection of favorite hors d’oeuvres, and drinks, while visiting with family and friends.
  3. Leave out cookies and milk for Santa Claus. Don’t forget the reindeer though! Leave some carrots for them.
  4. Have someone dress up as Santa and bring some presents and treats for the little ones.
  5. Go to a midnight mass or church service to “ring in” Christmas Day and Jesus’ birth.
  6. I especially like finding an old Christmas movie on TV and watching it alone after everyone has gone to sleep on Christmas Eve.
  7. Christmas Day is usually a casual day with a dinner, much like Thanksgiving, except you may open some presents in the morning.
  8. Read the Christmas Story from the Bible at Christmas dinner (Luke 2:1-20). You can take turns and have each person sitting around the dinner table read a small part.

There are literally hundreds of other Christmas traditions around the US and around the world.  If you have any you’d like to share, please leave me a message.

Here are some fun facts about Christmas:

Each year, 30-35 million real Christmas trees are sold in the United States alone. There are 21,000 Christmas tree growers in the United States, and trees usually grow for about 15 years before they are sold.

The first eggnog made in the United States was consumed in Captain John Smith’s 1607 Jamestown settlement.

Poinsettia plants are named after Joel R. Poinsett, an American minister to Mexico, who brought the red-and-green plant from Mexico to America in 1828.

The Salvation Army has been sending Santa Claus-clad donation collectors into the streets since the 1890s.

Rudolph, “the most famous reindeer of all,” was the product of Robert L. May’s imagination in 1939.  The copywriter wrote a poem about the reindeer to help lure customers into the Montgomery Ward department store.

Construction workers started the Rockefeller Center “lighting of the Christmas tree” tradition in 1931.

“Santa Claus” originated in a newspaper ad.  Far from being a quaint medieval legend, Santa Claus first appeared as a recognizable entity was in a newspaper ad for toys and “gift books” in the mid 1800’s.

Scrooge does not celebrate with the Cratchits. While most cinema versions of “A Christmas Carol” show the reformed miser celebrating with his lower-class employee, in the book, Scrooge celebrates instead with his middle-class nephew only.

It’s a tradition in Japan to eat Kentucky Fried Chicken for Christmas.  Orders must be placed over two months in advance to guarantee you’ll be “doing your chicken right!”

Paul McCartney earns over $400,000 a year from his “Wonderful Christmastime” song, which he regards as the worst song he ever recorded.

It only took Charles Dickens six weeks to write “A Christmas Carol.”

Christmas 101 class is now dismissed!

Please have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!!!

“Tell ‘em what they’ve won Johnny!”

“All of the homeless people in Oakland, California have won an all-expenses paid cruise ship adventure, Pat!”

Well…, not exactly all of the homeless population of Oakland.

According to Travis Fedschun of Fox News, “The City of Oakland considers obtaining a cruise ship to house the homeless!”

“This is not exactly ‘The Love Boat,’ but it could help make a dent in one California city’s homeless crisis.”

acruise 1

Unless you’re over 40 years old, you may not get the reference to “The Love Boat.”

For those of you who aren’t familiar with “The Love Boat,” “The Love Boat” was a TV series set on a luxury passenger cruise ship called the Pacific Princess.  The show aired on ABC from 1977 to 1987.  The series revolved around the ship’s captain, Captain Stubing (played by Gavin MacLeod), and a handful of its crew: Julie, Doc, Gopher and Isaac, along with several passengers, played by various guest star actors each episode, having romantic and humorous adventures.

The Love Boat - 1977-1986

Anyway…

“During a city council meeting on Tuesday, Oakland City Council President Rebecca Kaplan broached the idea of using a cruise ship to house up to 1,000 homeless people, suggesting a ship be brought to the Port of Oakland as the region deals with skyrocketing costs of living and a shortage of affordable housing.”

acruise 2

Have these liberals in California all lost their minds?

Seriously…, I’m seriously asking.

Their “solutions” just seem to be getting dumber and dumber.

acruise 15

I’ve heard they have excellent buffets on cruise ships, but our drug addicted friends may find it hard to find a fix if they’re confined to the ship.

And there would be a lot for them to do on the ship, but it seems all these homeless people do is lay around and sleep all day.

acruise 16

I don’t think we’d see a lot of them in the pool or on the water slide, but I could be wrong.

‘“It could be a great way to house a lot of people quickly,’ Kaplan told the San Francisco Chronicle. ‘Cruise ships have been used for emergency housing after natural disasters and for extra housing for things like Olympics.’”

“Homelessness has spiked in Oakland, with a 47 percent jump in two years — one of the largest surges of any California city, according to a one-night street count released in July.”

acruise 6

“The count, which used federal guidelines, showed Oakland had 4,017 homeless people, up from 2,761 in 2017. The increase has put the city’s per capita homeless rate higher than neighboring San Francisco and Berkeley.”

acruise 9

“Kaplan told the Chronicle she plans to present a proposal to the council in January that will be at “no or low” cost to the city, because residents of the cruise ship would pay for rooms based on their income. The city would not buy the cruise ship.”

I would like to go on record with my prediction that if this idea does come to fruition, it will NOT be at little or no cost to the city.

“The council president added that she has been contacted by cruise ship companies about providing a ship for emergency housing and that the companies – which were not named – were reaching out to the Port of Oakland about mooring options at the port.”

“The idea for a cruise ship in Oakland would be similar to the Queen Mary in Long Beach in Southern California.”

“The 1936 ocean liner is now a floating hotel with 347 rooms, where a room with two twin beds goes for $141 a night and $146 a night for a full-size bed.”

‘“It could be like that,’ Kaplan told the paper. ‘But as affordable housing instead of hotel.’”

Ha!

Something just doesn’t seem right here.

Why in the world would cruise ship companies be contacting the Oakland City Council, offering to let the city use their ships for housing homeless people?

Would anyone like to take a guess as to how long it would be before the ship was completely trashed and deemed worthless?

One month?

Two months?

Three months?

I’m sure these cruise ship companies have an interest in doing something along the lines of the Queen Mary in Long Beach, with a hotel type of situation; not as some sort of floating homeless repository!

There are also many port related issues and regulatory issues standing in the way of this happening as well.

It’s obvious that the liberal politicians are confused and haven’t done their homework…, like usual, regarding this brilliant idea.

“Cruise ships have been used as emergency housing before. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the Federal Emergency Management Agency chartered three luxury cruise liners to provide housing for up to 8,000 people that were left homeless after the storm. That $236 million contract was later scrutinized in a study released in 2006 by House Democrats, which said it proved ‘wasteful for the federal taxpayer’ because it ended up costing $50,000 to house a single person for six months, more than $300 per person for each night’s lodging.”

Remember the words, “at no or low cost to the city?”

The logical progression of this line of thinking would be to eventually buy an island and dump the homeless people off there for a permanent vacation!

Out of sight out of mind!

These liberals are really something, aren’t they?

That being said, I would like to offer my services and submit for your consideration, my proposal to deal with this homeless crisis.

Typically, communities are spending an adequate amount of money to address their homeless problem…, they’re just not spending their money appropriately or wisely.

There are many different reason for being “homeless.”

First, we need to divide the homeless into areas of situation and areas of need.

Families are treated differently, and routed to a family specific center.  Families would have all of the same considerations that individuals do plus the additional considerations for any children, regarding family continuity, safety considerations and school requirements.

acruise 12

acruise 11

If we’re dealing with an individual, we need to determine what exactly their situation is and route them at an appropriate assistance center.

Each of the following determinations would have its own specific assistance center.

We start and the top of this list and work our way down.  A person may fit into multiple stops on this list before finally not being “homeless” anymore.

Our overall goal is to not have anyone living on the streets, and to make sure everyone is being properly treated for whatever may be ailing them.

Is the person physically ill?

Is the person mentally ill?

Is the person addicted to drugs?

Does the person have an alcohol addiction?

Is this person disabled, receiving assistance, but needs shelter?

Does this person need shelter and help getting assistance?

acruise 10

Does this person need shelter and help getting employment?

Is this person a victim of circumstances not covered above?

Once the proper determination has been made, the individual would either receive the required medical treatment, be treated for their respective mental illness, treated for their addiction, and/or assisted with their administrative processes.

acruise 13

Our homeless population doesn’t need “band aid” or “feel good” solutions.

Our homeless need real solutions, and so do we.

People don’t mind paying for things that make sense, are effective, and that are run efficiently.

If I ever come across a government program like this I’ll let you know.

Until then, we can always hope.

Thank you, MrEricksonRules.

As usual, the democrats just don’t get it, or they refuse to acknowledge reality.

adems 7

As reported in the annual Annenberg survey, only 32% of Americans can name our three branches of government and 33% can’t name any of the branches of our government!

adems 1

With that in mind, I realize I’m going a little out on a limb here discussing British politics…, but I believe MrEricksonRules’ readers are well informed and interested in how the recent British elections may relate to the upcoming U.S. election in 2020.

According to Adam Shaw, Paul Steinhauser and Kelly Phares of Fox News, “Left-wing Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn saw his party mauled in Britain’s general election Thursday as its strongholds across the country fell to Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party — a dramatic result that commentators on both sides of the pond are seeing as a warning to socialist-leaning Democrats ahead of the U.S. presidential election.”

adems 9

“And for those who have openly cautioned about the party’s drift to the left, the U.K. results were treated as nothing short of a wake-up call. A sign, for some, that even a populist incumbent as irreverent and contentious as Johnson could ride to victory when the alternative is an equally controversial leftist vowing massive government expansion.”

Or perhaps an irreverent populist is just what the British people are looking for!

The liberals would never admit that, however.  This was obviously just some sort of mistake or a strategical miscalculation.

‘“Maybe this is the canary in the coal mine,’ Democratic presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg, who has tried to sell himself as a more electable alternative to candidates like Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders since entering the race last month, told reporters Friday.”

adems 6

And therein lies the problem with the democrats…, they’re always trying to “sell themselves” as something they’re not rather than just being honest about what they stand for.

Anyway…, nice analogy Mr. Bloomberg!

Only you think the canary dying symbolizes some sort of a warning for liberals, while I think it is symbolizing the death of the Democrat Party!

‘“The public clearly wanted a change in the U.K. The change was much more rapid and [had] greater magnitude than anyone had predicted. And I think it’s sort of a catastrophic warning to the Democratic Party that you’re just going to have to have somebody that can beat Donald Trump, and that is not going to be easy.”

adems 2

The problem here is, “Bloomy,” otherwise known as “Mr. Excitement…,” the majority of the people have to want a change for some reason, and President Trump hasn’t given them one. In fact, he has acquired supporters who feel he has, and is, doing a good job.

President Trump has proven he’s not your typical politician.

He has kept all of his campaign promises, and has accumulated quite a list of accomplishments along the way regarding the economy, energy, VA policies, positive minority policies, trade imbalances and foreign policy, just to name a few.

“Americans want change, but I think they don’t want revolutionary change,” the centrist billionaire said. “They want evolutionary change.”

What does that mean?

Please…, don’t even pretend to know what most Americans want, “Bloomy.”

adems 3

“[Boris] Johnson’s Tories won 365 seats in Parliament’s lower chamber, with Labour picking up just 203. It hands the Conservatives their biggest majority since the days of Margaret Thatcher and marks the worst showing for Labour since the 1930s. The left-wing party was left shell-shocked after a night that saw once-safe seats in working-class areas turn Tory, with enormous swings that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.”

Ha!  Ya…, we know what “shell-shocked liberals look like!

adems 10

“Seats in places such as Bolsover, Workington, Blyth Valley, Burnley, Wrexham and Stoke-on-Trent toppled one after another, each one yet another nail in the coffin of Labour’s hopes of ushering in a socialist government and preventing Britain’s departure from the European Union. It represented what many commentators are seeing as a realignment in British politics, as the Conservatives ripped up the electoral map and made gains in the North East, the North West and Wales in particular.”

This is comparable to President Trump winning the “rust belt” manufacturing states, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin in the 2016 presidential election.

adems 11

“Corbyn announced that he would eventually step down, promising not to lead the party in another general election, but saying that would come after a ‘period of reflection.’ He quickly tried to set the narrative that it was questions over Brexit, not his brand of hard-left policies that had ‘ultimately doomed the party.’”

Like I said…, these liberals just don’t get it.

There won’t be any “period of reflection…,” only a period of “restrategization.”

‘“All those policies were extremely popular during the election campaign and remain policies that have huge popular support all across this country,’ he said. ‘However Brexit has so polarized and divided debate in this country it has overriden so much of a normal political debate and I recognize that has contributed to the results the Labour Party has received all across this country.’”

Please stop trying to kid yourself and the British people.  I mean, we can all see exactly how “extremely popular” your policies were across your country.

Wa, wa, wa, waaaaaa.

“But while many of the seats that fell represent ‘pro-Leave’ [pro-Brexit] areas, polls suggested that it was Corbyn — and his extreme brand of left-wing politics — that was a more significant factor for Brits. Corbyn had taken over the party leadership in 2015 and dragged it to the left in a rejection of the kind of centrism embodied by three-term Prime Minister Tony Blair.”

Like I said…, these liberals just don’t get it, and they are refusing to allow the will of the people to affect their narrative.

“It’s a lesson that many in the U.K. and the U.S. are saying should be a warning for Democrats who may think that victory lies with an uncompromising agenda featuring government health care, immigration enforcement rollbacks and more. Democrats like Sens. Sanders, I-Vt., and Warren, D-Mass., have promoted far-reaching policies such as ‘Medicare-for-all’ and a halt to deportations of illegal immigrants — leading some to fear they may be out of step with the country.”

They’re only “out of step” with those of us who want to see America succeed.

They’re only “out of step” with those of us who work, or have worked, for a living.

And they’re only “out of step” with those of us who are informed and use our common sense.

adems 12

‘“One lesson from the UK: if the Democrats don’t stop their hard-left slide, they’ll suffer the same fate as Labour,’ commentator Andrew Sullivan tweeted. ‘If they don’t move off their support for mass immigration, they’re toast. Ditto the “wokeness.” Left [leaning] Twitter is not reality.’”

No worries there!

Toast it is!

“Former Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan warned also about the Twitter bubble, and that Democrats should be careful about picking someone too far on the fringes.”

‘“Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren both share Jeremy Corbyn’s socialist agenda and both appear to be as popular as him on Twitter,’ Morgan said in an op-ed. ‘But Twitter’s not the real world.’”

“He also drew comparisons between the British Left’s effort to thwart Brexit and the Democratic push to impeach Trump, rather than beat him at the ballot box.”

‘“Those who voted for Brexit and Trump don’t take kindly to their democratic vote being abused in this way and their retribution comes at the ballot box,’ he said. ‘If people think Boris Johnson’s earthquake was big, just wait until the Senate acquits President Trump and he uses that victory to storm to re-election.’”

Amen!

adems 10

“But if there is that kind of warning for Americans, it may be a message that meets significant resistance from activists hoping for their own version of a Corbynite revolution, and who may not be put off by the warning signs in Thursday’s vote.”

In other words…, the anti-American liberals, “the swamp,” RINOs (Mitt Romney for example), and the generally clueless.

adems 5

“MSNBC host Chris Hayes pointed out that Corbyn is running in a way that many Democrats would like to see.”

Again…, like I said…, these liberals just don’t get it, and they are refusing to allow the will of the people to affect their narrative.

‘“One thing you can’t say about the Corbyn campaign was that he was “Tory lite” [conservative lite] or too neoliberal or too establishment. He ran unabashedly from the left in a way many leftists want Democrats to run here in the U.S.,’ he tweeted. But after some criticism he deleted it, saying it was a ‘bad take.’”

And that was his problem!

Here we had a liberal that didn’t pretend to be something he wasn’t.

And that’s exactly why he and his party got whooped so bad!

“But the message of the U.K. election had also resonated in the White House. On Friday, [President] Trump suggested that just as the 2016 Brexit referendum foreshadowed his own presidential win a few months later, the 2019 U.K. election forecasts a win for him in 2020.”

‘“I want to congratulate Boris Johnson on a terrific victory. I think that might be a harbinger of what’s to come in our country,’ he said. ‘It was last time.’”

It might very well be a “harbinger of what’s to come in our country,” Mr. President.

adems 13

And if that were the case, that would mean a landslide victory you.

But what would a “landslide” victory look like for you?

First of all, a landslide victory for you would include your personal victory as well as maintaining control of the senate and regaining control of the House of Representatives.

Second, we would see you capturing a considerable majority of electoral votes.

What do I mean by a “considerable majority of electoral votes?”

Well, there are 538 total electoral votes that can be won.

The winner is the first candidate to win 270 of those votes.

The democrat in the race is virtually guaranteed to win 151 votes because of the liberal dominance in states like California, New York, Illinois, Washington, Oregon, Massachusetts, Maryland, Rhode Island, and the District of Columbia.

That means a landslide victory for President Trump would be in the range of 340-350 electoral votes.  He won 304 electoral votes in 2016.

Lastly, President Trump would come very close to, if not winning the popular vote outright.

It is my belief that President Trump WILL win re-election in a “landslide” victory in 2020.

WINNING!

Thank you, MrEricksonRules.

What duty does our judicial system have to us?

It is my belief that the judicial system is there to protect law abiding citizens from other people who choose to not obey the law or are a threat to law abiding citizens.

That my friends is job one.

There are other things we expect from our judges, but they are all secondary to job one.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at a recent case from the great state of Ohio.

According to David Aaro of Fox News, “An Ohio man with 36 driving suspensions and more than a dozen charges of operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI) has been indicted in the death of his wife following a car crash in October.”

adrunks 5

So let’s be clear here.

This man’s license had been suspended 36 times, and he had “more than a dozen charges of operating a vehicle while impaired.”

36 times!!!

And what does “more than a dozen” mean?  Don’t we actually know the exact number?

Is it 15 times?

20 times?

25 times?

What?

Saying “more than a dozen” seems to imply they don’t want to “pile on” here for some reason.

By all means…, let’s not embarrass this poor guy!

“Robert Ellis, 53, was driving eastbound on Alkire Road in Prairie Township on Oct. 16 just before 5 p.m. when he rounded a curve and struck a utility pole.”

adrunks 2

“His license was suspended at the time of the crash.”

Oh really…, that’s odd.

It would be more interesting to know the last time his driver’s license wasn’t suspended!

“His wife, Dawn Ellis, 51, was in the passenger seat and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he had a blood-alcohol level of .185, more than double the legal limit during the time of the fatal crash, according to Fox 8. Neither person was wearing a seat belt.”

All I have to say is, “Thank God it was his wife and not my wife or your wife or someone else’s wife.”

‘“This is criminal behavior,’ Franklin County Sheriff Office Chief Deputy Jim Gilbert told Fox News. ‘The only way you’re going to stop him from getting behind the wheel is to incarcerate him. He’s a constant menace to the motoring public.’”

Ya think?

adrunks 1

I would have thought a push to incarcerate this guy for a long period of time might have crossed someone’s mind quite a while ago.

Maybe like 25 suspensions ago.

It sounds ridiculous just making that statement.

“Gilbert added the most recent crash was his 16th time being charged with OVI, with two other charges being reduced to reckless operation. Ellis has been in an out of the jail system more than a dozen times, he added.  His various charges throughout the years include eight counts of domestic violence, stalking, disorderly conduct, petty theft, breaking and entering, assault and felony drug abuse.”

adrunks 4

Oooooooh myyyyyyyyyy God!

Are you kidding me?!

So on top of the 36 driver’s license suspensions and the 16 or so times of driving under the influence, this guy was found guilty of “eight counts of domestic violence, stalking, disorderly conduct, petty theft, breaking and entering, assault and felony drug abuse.”

And this is only the stuff he was caught doing!

adrunks 3

How much other stuff did he do where he didn’t get caught?

Can we all just agree that this guy needs to be terminated?

‘“While investigating this fatal traffic crash it was very clear to investigators that Mr. Ellis is one of the worst habitual repeat offenders of drunk driving we have seen,’ the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. ‘He has no regard for human life.’”

Now that, I would say, is the understatement of the year!

How many other cases are there that are similar, or even worse, than this one?

Is this how law abiding citizens deserve to be protected?

This kind of case just tells me we are all luckier than hell we don’t get killed every time we leave our homes.

And that is thanks to our inadequate laws and inept judges.

In “The Peoples’ Court, our judicial system is judged to be failing…, miserably.
